AC Hardwired Motors

All of the motorised blinds we offer can be connected to your home mains power supply.  These are known as AC hard wired motors. Each motor is £120 inc. VAT per blind (excluding installation).

Why are the battery motors more popular? What is involved with installing a hard wired electric motor?

For most people, the amount of work needed to run electric cables to the top of the recess where the motor is placed inside of the blind, makes it prohibitively expensive.  Unless you are using trunking, which of course is visible, you will need to consider chasing out the walls in which the electric cables will run, plastering, re-decorating and then employing a qualified electrician to install the cables.

The blinds will then need to be measured and installed, but the installation will take place in two phases.  The blinds will be fitted, however, the electrician will then need to connect each blind to the power supply he or she has installed at the top of the recess.

Once that has been done, we will need to revisit your property and complete the installation by setting up each blind.  

As you can see, the amount of work to install AC hard wired motors is much more involved.

Even if you are perhaps in a re-building phase of a property where you have the opportunity to install cables, we absolutely believe the battery motors are a much better proposition.  

Firstly, they are now well proven and are easy to maintain.  They will operate even during a power cut and most importantly, if they develop a problem, they are easy to fix.

In the case of hard wired motors, we cannot replace the motor unless your electrician attends to (a) prove electric supply to the motor is still working and (b) then disconnects the power to allow us to attend and replace the motor.  Then, having done so, the electrician will need to attend once more to connect the blind and then we must come back to setup it once more.

In the case of the battery powered motors, we can swap a battery motor in a matter of around 5 minutes or less.

We still offer and supply AC hard wired motors if customers require them.
